Vic: East Gippsland fire contained
MELBOURNE, Jan 17 AAP - Victorian firefighters have controlled a blaze started by lightningin the alpine zone of East Gippsland overnight.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) flew firefighting teams intoforest in the Bendoc district by helicopter early this morning, and the fire was undercontrol by midday.
The damaged area was restricted to nine hectares, said DSE state fire coordinator John Lloyd.
Eight other fires were still burning in the high country in north-east Victoria, havingblackened more than 35,000 ha since they were started by lightning 10 days ago.
