Ronald Schiavone won court approval Friday to have his trial severed from that of former Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan and others accused of defrauding the city Transit Authority of $7.4 million.
Schiavone, 61, chairman of the Schiavone Construction Co. of Seacacus, N.J., and a longtime business associate of Donovan, was granted his request for a trial severance on the basis of poor health.
But Justice John Collins of state Supreme Court in the Bronx ordered Schiavone to return to court Jan. 12 to provide a status report on his heart condition and possibly to set a trial date.
