Fed: Howard to examine tax on fuel for marine rescue

CANBERRA, Dec 13 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today promised to reconsider tax
charged on fuel used by marine rescue organisations.

A caller to Brisbane Radio 4BC said voluntary marine rescuers paid 79 cents a litre
plus GST on unleaded outboard petrol that was not used on roads.

"I'll have a look at what you've raised," Mr Howard said.

"It has implications not just in your area but throughout the community where a commodity
like petrol is bought and used for the sort of purpose that you mentioned.

"Without promising anything on the run, I will examine the point that you've made."
