CONTRARY VIEWPOINTS FOSTER DISCERNING READERS.(MAIN)

I would like to respond to the letters asking that George Will's regular commentary be dropped from the Times Union. I must admit that I have read little of Mr. Will's work, but this is not about his specific opinions, nor does it has anything to do with conservative vs. liberal, right vs. left, etc.

I find it absurd to suggest dropping this column because it is ``out of the mainstream thoughts of most citizens.'' Isn't it interesting that these ``mainstream thoughts'' were once themselves considered radical, and we look on those who challenged the beliefs of ``most citizens'' as great figures in history?

If anything, people …
